Companion tells you about new messages and other events in three ways on the web: the bell, desktop notifications and email. The phone app sends its own notifications. See Phone app notifications.

The bell

The bell is in the bar at the top of the screen. It shows a mark when something is unread. Choose it to open the list. Choose a row to go to the chat or workflow it is about. Opening a chat also marks its rows in the bell as read. Mark all as read clears the lot. Several messages from one customer in a chat you have not opened yet show as one row, not one each. A rep only sees rows for chats they can still open. Once a teammate picks up an unassigned chat, its row leaves everyone else’s bell. Rows are kept for 90 days.

Desktop notifications

Desktop notifications tell you about anything new under the bell while Companion is open in a tab you are not looking at.
1

Open the bell

Choose the bell at the top of the screen.
2

Turn them on

Choose Turn on desktop notifications at the foot of the list.
3

Allow them in your browser

Your browser asks for permission. Choose to allow it.
Choosing a desktop notification brings Companion to the front and opens the chat. This setting belongs to the browser you turn it on in. Turn it on again on each computer or browser you use. To stop, open the bell and choose Turn off.
If the bell says your browser is blocking notifications, allow them for Companion in your browser’s site settings, then try again.

Email notifications

Open the menu under your name, choose Your account, then Notifications. Each switch saves as you change it. Emails go to the address you sign in with. These switches only control email. The bell always shows its rows.
