The audience is who a broadcast goes to. You choose it on the Audience step when you create a broadcast.
Owners, admins and managers only.

Audience options

Some options only appear when there is something to choose. A saved audience appears once you have saved one. People not reached appears when you choose Send to those not reached on an earlier broadcast. To use tags, tag some contacts or conversations first. See Contacts and Assigning and organising.

Check who it reaches

As you choose, Companion counts the audience and shows:
  • how many people will receive the broadcast
  • how many are excluded because they opted out
  • how many are left out because they have no number WhatsApp can reach
  • how much of this month’s broadcast allowance it uses. See Reach and results
Choose See who this is to see the first 50 people in the audience.

Saved audiences

Save a rule you use often, so you can pick it again in one step.
1

Choose the audience

On the Audience step, set up the audience you want.
2

Save it

Choose Save this audience, enter a Name for this audience of up to 60 characters, and choose Save.
A saved audience stores the rule, not a list of people. It is worked out afresh each time, so “Contacts tagged VIP” reaches whoever is tagged VIP on the day. A workspace can keep up to 50 saved audiences.

Who is always left out

Whatever audience you choose, Companion leaves out:
  • Anyone who opted out of marketing. This applies to every broadcast, including one that sends a utility template. See Opt-outs.
  • Anyone with no valid phone number. A contact known only by email cannot be sent a WhatsApp message.
A scheduled broadcast works out its audience when it sends. Anyone who opts out before then is left out, and anyone who joins the audience before then is included.

Nobody gets the same broadcast twice

  • If the same number appears on two contacts, it is sent to once.
  • If a broadcast stops part-way and you resume it, it carries on with the people not yet tried. Nobody it already tried is sent to again.
  • If a send is interrupted, Companion does not send that message again, in case it had already gone. That person is marked as failed.

Your number’s daily limit

Meta limits how many people a number can start conversations with in 24 hours. If an audience is larger than what your number has left, the people past the limit are skipped. You can send to them the next day with Send to those not reached.
