# Your account and two-factor authentication

> Change your name and photo, see how sign-in works, turn on two-factor authentication, and delete your account.

Your account settings are yours alone. Open the menu under your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose **Your account**, or go to **Settings**, then **Profile**.

Your email address is what you sign in with and cannot be changed here. Email [support@msgcompanion.com](mailto:support@msgcompanion.com) to change it.

## How sign-in works

Companion has no passwords. To sign in on the web:

* enter your email address and choose **Continue**. You are sent a six-digit code and a sign-in link. Type the code, or open the link.
* or choose **Continue with Google**.

The phone app also offers sign-in with Apple and with Google.

Always sign in with the email address you were invited with. A different address is a different account.

## Turn on two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication asks for a second code, from an authenticator app on your phone, each time you sign in. It applies on the web and in the phone app.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Switch it on">
    Under **Security**, switch on **Two-factor authentication**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Scan the code">
    Scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as 1Password, Google Authenticator or Authy. You can copy the key and enter it by hand instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the six digits">
    Type the code the app shows and choose **Turn on**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Turn off two-factor authentication

Switch off **Two-factor authentication** under **Security**, then choose **Turn off** to confirm. You can turn it back on at any time.

## If you lose your authenticator app

You cannot reset two-factor authentication yourself. Email [support@msgcompanion.com](mailto:support@msgcompanion.com) from the address on your account and ask for it to be reset.

## Devices

**Devices** lists everywhere your account is signed in, with when each was last active.

* Choose **Sign out** beside a device you do not recognise.
* Choose **Sign out other devices** to sign out everywhere except the device you are using.

## Delete your account

<Warning>This cannot be undone.</Warning>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose Delete account">
    At the bottom of **Profile**, choose **Delete account**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Type `delete my account`, then choose **Permanently delete \[your email]**. You are signed out.
  </Step>
</Steps>

What happens:

* Your name, email, photo and device details are removed, and you leave the workspace.
* Conversations assigned to you become unassigned. The conversations, orders and payment links themselves stay with the workspace.
* What remains of your account is kept for 90 days, then erased for good. Your address cannot sign in during that time unless an owner or admin invites you back.

The owner cannot delete their account. Transfer ownership first, or delete the workspace. See [Roles](/team/roles) and [Your data](/settings/your-data).
