# Invite people

> Invite your team by email or with a link, manage pending invitations, and remove someone who has left.

<Note>Owners and admins only.</Note>

## Invite someone by email

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Users and teams">
    Go to **Settings**, then **Users and teams**, and choose **Invite user**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter their email and pick a role">
    Choose admin, manager or rep. If you have teams, you can also pick a **Team** for a manager or a rep. See [Roles](/team/roles) for what each role can do.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send it">
    Choose **Send invite**. They get an email with a link to join.
  </Step>
</Steps>

An invitation lasts seven days and works only for the address it was sent to.

## Create an invite link

Use a link when you do not know the person's email address in advance.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose Invite link">
    On **Users and teams**, choose **Invite link**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a role">
    Pick the role, and a team if you have any, then choose **Create link**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy and share it">
    Copy the link and send it yourself.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Anyone who signs in and opens the link joins the workspace with that role. The link lasts 30 days and can be used by more than one person, so revoke it when you no longer need it.

## Pending invitations

Invitations that have not been accepted are listed under **Pending invites**, with when each was sent and when it expires.

* **Copy link** copies the joining link so you can send it yourself.
* **Resend** emails a fresh link and gives the invitation another seven days. The old link stops working.
* **Revoke** cancels the invitation. The link stops working.

## Accepting an invitation

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the email">
    Choose **Accept invitation** in the email.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in with the invited address">
    Choose **Continue with \[your email]**. You get a code by email and come straight back to the invitation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Join">
    Enter your name if asked, then choose **Join \[workspace]**. Next, Companion helps you get the phone app.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Things that can stop you joining:

* **A different address.** You must sign in with the address the invitation was sent to. If you are signed in as someone else, choose **Switch to \[invited email]**.
* **An expired invitation.** Ask the person who invited you for a new one.
* **Another workspace.** One account belongs to one workspace. An address that is already in a workspace cannot join a second one.

## Seats

Each person in the workspace uses a seat. A pending email invitation holds a seat too, until it is accepted, revoked or expires. An invite link does not hold a seat. A seat is checked when someone uses it to join.

When all your seats are in use, you cannot send another invitation, and nobody can join through an invite link. Nothing changes for the people already in the workspace. To make room:

* remove a member or revoke a pending invitation, or
* ask the owner to add a seat under **Settings**, **Billing**. See [Manage your plan](/billing/manage-your-plan).

## Remove a member

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the person">
    Go to **Settings**, then **Users and teams**, and select the person.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Remove from workspace">
    Under **Danger zone**, choose **Remove from workspace**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Decide what happens to their conversations">
    Under **Their conversations**, choose **Leave unassigned** or pick a colleague to take them over.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Choose **Confirm: remove \[name]**. It takes effect immediately and is recorded in the audit log.
  </Step>
</Steps>

What happens when someone is removed:

* They can no longer sign in, and their seat is freed.
* Their conversations go to the colleague you chose, or become unassigned for anyone to pick up. No messages are lost.
* Any WhatsApp number assigned to them is unassigned, and a team they managed is left without them.

The owner cannot be removed, and you cannot remove yourself here. To leave a workspace, delete your own account. See [Your account and two-factor authentication](/team/your-account-and-two-factor).

To bring someone back, invite them again with the same email address.
