# Your data

> Export your data, see the agreements your workspace has accepted, erase a customer, and delete the workspace.

<Note>Owners and admins only. Accepting agreements and deleting the workspace are for the owner.</Note>

The data in your workspace is yours. You can take a copy at any time, including when a trial has ended or a subscription has lapsed.

## Export your data

Go to **Settings**, then **Data and legal**. Under **Export your data**, choose **Download** beside what you want. Each one downloads as a CSV file.

| Export | What is in it |
| - | - |
| Conversations | One row for each customer thread, with its assignee and last activity |
| Messages | Every message sent and received, in order, with its delivery status |
| Contacts | Your customers, how to reach them, your notes and who opted out of marketing |
| Appointments | Bookings taken through WhatsApp |
| Audit log | Who changed what in the workspace. Growth and Business only |

To export contacts alone, with more control, see [Import and export contacts](/contacts/import-and-export).

## Legal documents

**Agreements**, on the same page, lists the documents your workspace is on: the terms of service, the data processing agreement and the privacy policy. Select a document's name to read it.

Each one shows which version was accepted, when and by whom, and one of these:

* **Current.** You have accepted the version in force.
* **Update due.** A newer version is in force. A link lets you read the version you accepted.
* **Not accepted.** No acceptance is recorded.

When a new version is due, the owner chooses **Accept the current version**. Admins can read the documents but cannot accept on the workspace's behalf.

## How long data is kept

* **While your workspace is open.** Ending a trial or cancelling a plan deletes nothing. Your conversations and settings are kept.
* **Audit log.** Entries are kept for 24 months.
* **A deleted account.** When one person deletes their account or is removed, what remains of their account is kept for 90 days and then erased. The work they did stays with the workspace.
* **A deleted workspace.** Conversations and messages are deleted for good after 30 days, and the rest of the workspace after 90 days.

## Erase a customer's data

Use this when a customer asks you to erase what you hold about them. It is not the same as deleting a chat, which only takes the chat out of the inbox.

<Warning>Erasing cannot be undone.</Warning>

**From a conversation**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the conversation's menu">
    Open one of the customer's conversations and choose **Erase customer** from its menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Type the customer's number as shown, then choose **Erase permanently**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**From Contacts**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tick the contacts">
    Go to **Contacts**, tick the people to erase, and choose **Erase**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Type `ERASE`, then choose **Erase for good**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

What is removed: the contact, and every message, note, booking and payment link your workspace holds about that person, across every conversation and every number they have with you.

Two things to know:

* If the customer had opted out of marketing, the opt-out is remembered. Importing or syncing the same number later does not make them marketable again.
* If the customer writes to you again afterwards, a new conversation starts.

## Delete the workspace

<Note>Owner only.</Note>

<Warning>This cannot be undone. Export anything you want to keep first.</Warning>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Danger zone">
    Go to **Settings**, then **Danger zone**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Delete workspace">
    Type the workspace's name, then choose **Permanently delete \[workspace name]**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

What happens:

* The subscription is cancelled at once, with no refund.
* Everyone loses access, and you are signed out.
* Workflows are paused and scheduled broadcasts are cancelled. Nothing more is sent.
* Conversations and messages are deleted for good after 30 days, and the rest of the workspace after 90 days.

If you only want to stop paying, cancel your plan instead. Your data is kept. See [Manage your plan](/billing/manage-your-plan).
