# Connect Shopify

> Connect your Shopify store to send products in chats, see what each customer has ordered and bring your customers into Contacts.

Connecting your Shopify store lets your team use it without leaving a chat.

<Note>
  Owners and admins only. On Starter, Shopify is one of your 2 integrations.
</Note>

This is different from the free Shopify app, which only adds a WhatsApp button to your storefront and reads nothing from your store. See [The Shopify app](/website-chat/shopify-app). You can use both.

## Connect your store

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Integrations">
    Go to **Integrations** and find **Shopify**. It is under **Ecommerce**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Add">
    A window opens. Enter your store and sign in to Shopify.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve access">
    Shopify shows what Companion is asking for. Approve it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the card">
    The Shopify card now shows **Connected**, your store's address ending in `.myshopify.com`, and "Reads products and stock, customers and orders."
  </Step>
</Steps>

Companion reads from your store as soon as it is connected. If that first read fails, the card shows **Needs attention** with the reason. Put it right, then choose **Check connection** or **Reconnect**.

## What it unlocks

### Products in chat

In a WhatsApp conversation, choose **More actions**, then **Send product**. Search your store by name or product code and send the product into the chat.

Products are read live from your store, so prices and stock are current. Sending a product only works inside the 24-hour window.

Your products can also be used in two other places:

* When you build a payment link, you can add items by searching your store.
* A workflow can send a product with the **Send a product** step.

### Customer details beside the chat

When a customer's phone number matches a customer in your store, the **Customer file** panel beside the conversation shows what your store knows about them:

* Their email address and their tags in Shopify.
* **Orders**: how many orders they have placed.
* **Lifetime value**: what they have spent.
* **Last order**: the date of their latest order.

This is read live each time you open the conversation and is not stored in Companion. If the customer is not in your store, those lines are simply not shown.

### Contacts from your store

Your Shopify customers are added to **Contacts**:

* when you connect the store,
* every night,
* and whenever you choose **Sync** on the Contacts page.

A sync never overwrites details you have typed, and it never opts anyone in to marketing. A customer who has unsubscribed in your store comes in as opted out. See [Sync contacts from your shop](/contacts/sync-from-your-shop).

## If something goes wrong

The Shopify card says what went wrong and when a read last worked.

* **Check connection** tries a read. If it works, the fault clears.
* **Reconnect** signs in to Shopify again. Use it when Shopify has turned the connection down, or when Companion was not allowed to read something it needs.

## Disconnect

On the Shopify card, choose **Disconnect** and confirm. The product picker and stock, customer lookups, the contact sync and order history stop working until you connect again.

Nothing is deleted in Shopify.
